1. Stage 2 Geography student evening at Adelaide University was conducted on August 25th, 2008. A similar event is hoping to be conducted in 2009.

2. A professional development evening was conducted at Flinders University in September , 2008. A similar event is hoping to be conducted in 2009.

AGTA Events for 2009

The Australian Geography Teachers Association (AGTA) will be conducting forums on teh National geography Curriculum in 2009 around Australia.  Go to http://www.ngc.org.au/  for information on this initiative.

Events conducted by/with other related associations

1. The Royal Geographical Society (RGS)of South Australia

Each year the RGS conducts an excellent programme of  lectures on a wide range of geographical topics.  Here are some of the topics on show: ageing in regional South Australia, walking in the Flinders Ranges, Antarctic exploration, implications of global warming, urban landscape architecture and afghan camel men in Central Australia.

2. Asia Education Foundation Japan Study Tour

The Asia Education Foundation (AEF) is offering an exciting study tour to Japan/>/> in January 2010 to be led by Dr Shigeko Nariyama, a highly experienced Senior Lecturer at The University of Melbourne on Japanese culture and language. Shigeko has many years experience in leading adult educator groups to Japan/>/>.  With visits to places such as Kyoto/>, Hiroshima/>, Otsuki and Osaka/>/>, the Study Tour will provide all educators with a rare opportunity to:

  • Deepen their knowledge and understanding of Japan/>/>;

  • Gain environmental insights into the Kyoto Protocol from a local environmental educator;

  • Hear about the life of a Geisha in Japan/>/> from a former Geisha;

  • Learn about Japan/>’s rich religious history and visit key Buddhist/>Temples/>/> and Shinto Shrines;

  • Participate in workshops on modern Japanese media and art (including Japan/>/>’s famous Manga comics and Anime); and

  • Learn about Japan/>/>’s education system and meet Japanese educators.
