1. Consultation on the draft Australian Curriculum: Geography

The GTASA considers that there is a need to start working with teachers in Australia (geographers adn non-geographers) who soon will have the opportunity to teach the Australian Curriculum: Geography. The draft of the course, due for release in October 2012, is now published and open for consultation on the ACARA website. Geographers in Australia are keen for as much feedback as possible on the draft and we really encourage GTASA members (and others) to have a look at the draft and consider providing feedback to ACARA. The more feedback we get, the better the course will be!  To support the consultation process the GTASA is running a forum between 5pm-7pm on February 15th at the Education Development Centre (EDC), Hindmarsh.

2. Towards a National Geography Curriculum: Geography in the 21st Century.

The project titled ‘Towards a National Geography Curriculum’ was developed by the Australian Geography Teachers’ Association(AGTA) in association with the Institute of Australian Geographers(IAG) and the Royal Geographical Society of Queensland(RGSQ). There is a website at http://www.ngc.org.au/ which is will keep you up to pace with the initiative.

Since Octber 2008 the TNGC project has worked with ACARA to obtain the views of teachers about the nature of a future national geography curriculum.

The final Towards a National Geography Curriculum report was presented to ACARA in April 2009.  View the report by clicking here.
