1. Towards a National Geography Curriculum: Geography in the 21st Century.

The project titled ‘Towards a National Geography Curriculum’ has been developed by the Australian Geography Teachers’ Association(AGTA) in association with the Institute of Australian Geographers(IAG) and the Royal Geographical Society of Queensland(RGSQ). There is a website at http://www.ngc.org.au/ which is will keep you up to pace with the initiative.

Between October 2008 and May 2009 consultation forums were held around Australia to obtain the views of teachers about the nature of a future national geography curriculum. This was the opportunity for geography teachers in South Australia to have an input in the project. />/>

The final Towards a National Geography Curriculum report has now been presented to the National Curriculum Board.  View the report by clicking here.

Consultation on the draft Shape of the Australian Curriculum:
Geography is now open from 21 June to 27 August 2010.
The Draft Shape Paper has been developed following feedback from a
national forum in May 2010. A survey has been developed to help
support the national public consultation process which will run till
27 August 2010. This feedback will be used to further revise the draft
Shape Paper, which will then be published as The Shape of the
Australian Curriculum: Geography. This paper will guide the writing of
the final K-12 geography curriculum.
